Pierre Neumann was born in Adelaide, Australia, to a Swiss mother and Polish father. From 1974 to 1978, he attended the École cantonale des beaux-arts et d’art appliqué de Lausanne (now ECAL) and then worked with Werner Jeker for two years. Since 1980, he has designed over 400 posters and more than 150 books and art catalogs as a freelance graphic designer. He has worked for numerous cultural institutions in Switzerland and abroad, including Pro Helvetia, projects in Tübingen, Kassel, and Arles, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
He also teaches at the École cantonale des beaux-arts et d’art appliqué in Lausanne, the Art Center College of Design (Europe) in La Tour-de-Peilz, the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), the École nationale de la photographie in Arles, and the École supérieure de la photographie in Vevey. He organizes workshops at the Biennale internationale de l’affiche in Mexico City, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, at the École d’arts appliquées in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and at the École romande d’arts et communication (Eracom) in Lausanne. He is also a member of various international juries for graphic design.
His posters, which can be seen in countless solo and group exhibitions worldwide, are characterized by a stupendous visual narrative technique with wit, drama, and charm, orchestrated and composed with a wide variety of stylistic devices. Around ten posters and numerous books have been awarded prizes by the Federal Office of Culture, and in 1996 Neumann received the Icograda Prize at the 7th International Poster Festival in Chaumont, France.

Von 1974 bis 1978 besucht er die École cantonale des beaux-arts et d’art appliqué de Lausanne (heute ECAL) und arbeitet anschliessend für zwei Jahre mit Werner Jeker. Seit 1980 entwirft er als freischaffender Grafiker über 400 Plakate und mehr als 150 Bücher und Künstlerkataloge. Er ist für zahlreiche Kulturinstitutionen in der Schweiz und im Ausland tätig, unter anderem für Pro Helvetia, für Projekte in Tübingen, Kassel und Arles sowie für das Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Dänemark.

Eine stupende bildnerische Erzähltechnik mit Witz, Dramatik und Charme, instrumentiert und kompo niert mit vielfältigsten Stilmitteln, charakterisiert seine Plakate, die weltweit an unzähligen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen zu sehen sind. Rund zehn Plakate und zahlreiche Bücher werden vom Bundes amt für Kultur ausgezeichnet, und 1996 erhält Neumann den Icograda-Preis beim 7. Internationalen Plakatfestival im französischen Chaumont.
