Kurt Wirth (1917–1996)

After training as a graphic designer, Kurt Wirth opened his own studio in 1937 and soon made a name for himself as an illustrator. Wirth was one of the co-founders of the ‘Swiss Graphic Designers Association’. His various creations for Swissair and Swiss Federal Railways are some of the centrepieces of his lifework, enriched throughout by artistic expertise. With two highly acclaimed books on the subject of graphics, Kurt Wirth will also always be remembered as a leading teacher of young talent. The Swiss Graphic Design Foundation examined the great designer’s estate together with his son and took over responsibility for it in autumn 2011.
